MATH CORE VOCABULARY

Vocabulary development, critical for English Learners, is strongly related to academic achievement (Saville-Troike, 1984). Students need repeated exposure of content vocabulary by hearing, using, reading and writing them. Visual icons will help solidify the meaning of sometimes abstract vocabulary.

MATH READING

Read alouds can create a contextualized opportunity for students to develop language, IF used appropriately. In an ELD read aloud, every question posed should be answered by students turning to their partners first, and then, if necessary, having one or two students share out whole group.
